I Don't Weep, Do You?

This project reimagines the concept of masking: the performative behavior (represented by emotionless resin masks) that hides real emotion (captured photographically). This multimedia project explores the tension between the id pushing emotions, disgust, rage, and desire and the defense mechanisms of the socially conscious ego.

It is just as Charlie said that day, in the coffee house, sipping a black coffee blurred by the smoke (we were allowed to smoke there in those days), and he wanted to tell me the story of the blue bird but hesitated. The waitress came over and asked again if we wanted something else, but I just wanted silence and hear what he had to say, finally, hear what he had to say, and why do waiters always interrupt? so she went back to the old man who gave her more attention and wanted another coke anyway. So I turned back to Charlie to hear the story but he had moved on already and was staring out the window. So? I said; So what? he said; Tell me the story – I said; There is no story, drink your coffee, and stop trying to mess me up. We sat there until the sun went behind the building housing the local bank branch and then he was gone.

“I don’t weep, do you?” refers to the idea of reflexion masks’ construction and usage, using advanced light technology, designed to trap and cover thoughts of trauma and emotion, avoidance of acne and inflammation and social awkwardness, often FDA-certified for safety.
